Podcast: Sir Richard Dearlove discusses a new world order
The world is changing. The shift from the ‘Pax Americana’, the long period in which the USA has acted as guarantor for a rules-based international order, has come to its end. We now find ourselves in the unfamiliar territory of a multi-polar world in which multiple nations have begun to compete for pre-eminent status.
In the first of our Perspectives podcasts, we interviewed Sir Richard Dearlove, Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service from 1999 to 2004, on the security challenges that China, Russia and Brexit pose to the international order. With a career spanning over thirty-eight years in British Intelligence, Sir Richard served as a frontline case officer behind the Iron Curtain, in Geneva and Paris, in Africa and as station head in Washington D.C.
